everyday life - week 4

Man, what a week!

This was a busy, busy week. But so full and so fun!

When Eugene is on his "work week", I'm always busy trying to find things to fill my schedule with to keep me and the kids busy. It's always so much fun and I am so thankful for the community God has placed us in to live life with - but I also am learning the importance of being intentional about what and how much I choose to fill my schedule with. I never want to neglect the most important/BEST things (my personal pursuit of and devotion to the Lord) because of good things I am filling my life/schedule/thoughts with so I have actually been trying to scale down a bit. It's a work in progress!

So without further ado - here's what this past week looked like!

Over the weekend, we actually had a small group reunion for Eugene's college small group! These guys were freshmen when they were in Eugene's small group and now they are all grown up! No better way to catch up than with loads of pork. Yum! (P.s. Bossam in the instapot is SO money. Will try to post a recipe soon!)

We had a VERY rare but super sweet Sunday. Usually one of us is working a night shift either before or after church so we are always so rushed or sleepy. But for the first time in 6 months, we had the morning "off" so we got to spend a quiet, slow and alert morning together. Our biweekly coffee dates continue. This week: Vitaly Caffe in Costa Mesa.

The vibe here is pretty rad.

A rare moment calls for a rare (sadly!) family photo! Asher was thrilled, if you can't tell.

Dinner with friends! Star wars episode re-enactments, amazing kabobs and playing fun kid games! I found out, during this evening, that Eugene had never played Guess Who? growing up (WHAT DID U DO DURING UR CHILDHOOD)

Visiting Wug at 7Leaves.
Left: Wug in 2018 with Baby girl A.
Right: Wug in 2016 with Baby boy A and the best hairstyle evar. (BRING IT BACK)

Big brother's naptime is a blessing because it provides the perfect mid-day break to rest, recharge and re-caffeinate.

Last time seeing the Oquindos before they become parents! So much fun being able to go through life with our friends.

We spontaneously made chocolate chip cookies after dinner one night. BEST DECISION EVER. We doubled the recipe and used up everything I had in my pantry. Then we realized we used the wrong kind of butter (Smart Balance instead of real butter - ooops!) Still turned out okay! Can't wait to make them again.

A couple weeks ago, I became an Usborne consultant and I am really loving it! I have always loved their books so it's been a lot of fun sharing my love for these books with everyone else!

Kids who eat together stay together forever and become best friends until they get old and gray. RIGHT?! I hope so. T & A, BFF4L!!!!!

I had an entire costco-sized bag of broccoli I forgot about in the back of my fridge so decided to try making broccoli cheddar soup. But I used milk instead of cream. and Mexican-style cheese instead of sharp cheddar. EH. It was aiiiiiite to me, but Eugene really loved it and told me almost 10 times that it was his favorite soup. I'm so blessed haha.

We had sandwiches with the soup and Asher was not a fan. Now that I think of it, I'm not sure he's ever had a sandwich? haha anyway - I tried to jazz his neglected leftovers up a bit to try to entice him. It worked maybe 10%, lol! However, since then he has been asking for a sandwich almost every other day. I think we're onto something...

Asher was obsessed with this really awesome alphabet puzzle he received and played with it almost everyday this week (Thanks HMC!) A few things to note here: the million small toys that are piled around him (--my life), the tray of food from previous photo that I moved closer to where he was sitting to entice him some more (--didn't work) and baby girl who is literally always plopped wherever big brother is playing and she is like "so, like - when are you gonna pick me up?"

Introducing Asher to the deliciousness that is cottage cheese with canned peaches (my fave combo!)

Did you know I had an etsy shop? I rarely mention it because I am not too active on it. I started it as a way to raise money for my mission trip to India a few years ago and the cards I created for that fundraiser are still slowly getting sold away. January is always my busiest month (because-- Valentine's Day!) so I've been a busy bee at night packing orders away. Thankful for my sister who has been sleeping over here and there (BLESS UP!) and helping me with my orders. I love you, Kat.

Morning snuggles and smiles in baby girl's crib is becoming a ritual and I love it so much.

Spent the morning at one of our favorite places (Pretend City) with one of our favorite people (Auntie Em) and Asher had a blast!

My current dining table situation every night. Worksheets, tax forms, kid books, etsy orders being packaged, etc. Oh and NARNIA!

I really want to read more this year - and I am one chapter into my non-fiction choice  of 2018 (I've never read it before!) I'm excited but realizing that I need to try to set a goal for 10 mins a day to read or else i will still be on chapter 2 in June. I'm so excited though!

Every friday we have weekly family time (even on Eugene's work weeks) which is pretty much just a dinner before bible study but it is my favorite part of the week.  This week was ramen (followed by boba!!!!! MY FAVE)

Cheers to a new week!

everyday life - week 3

Happy Monday!

This week was a busy one! We worked back to back night shifts this week so the morning Eugene got home, I was scheduled to start my work 'week'. Honestly, much of this week was a total blur but i'm thankful for the small moments I captured. Trying to be thankful for every day!

SUNDAY VIBEZ

Auntie Judy spoiled Asher once again with really cool toys and books and he has been obsessed with this alphabet one. It's so fun to see all the words he's slowly learning.

Baby went on a bottle strike last week so back to the drawing board. We had to re-train her on the bottle and went through so many different bottles and flow speeds a day. I think she is finally getting it. No more 12+ hour hunger strikes. *prayer hands emoji*

Homegirl also found her thumb this week. Eugene wants her to break the habit but I can't get over how cute it is. This thumb sucking business also granted us our first 10 hour stretch of sleep! Woo-hoo!

My baby is 21.

Baby A looooves to roll around on the floor. (So close to rolling over!) and she just started grabbing her toys. I always find her in the midst of big brother's mess.

Long, tiring days without daddy mean really really long bathtimes for this little guy while mama has a moment to rest and recollect herself. He never complains!

We had a lot of beautiful days this week. Love when the weather is perfect for playing outside!

Baby friends are the best.

I should start a series of avery in the middle of these messes.

Took a big trip to ikea and got a few things to organize my life. so thankful for elise who spent the whole day with us - helping me juggle both kids and helping me build the goods. <3

Our morning basket is Baby Beluga themed currently. Curriculum from Let's Play School is super cute! Hoping we can get into a routine sometime soon.

We didn't get a lot of family time this week because of Eugene's wonky schedule but we did squeeze a few extra coffee dates.

Tired night shift feet. Was reminded this week what a blessing it is to work - to have a job that you enjoy, a means to provide and the ability to do all thats required is a blessing!

To be honest, today was a tough one. 'Twas a bit of a rocky start to the week but hoping to persevere through each day with joy and without complaining. There is much to be grateful for. My focus for this week: ABIDE.

Cheers!

everyday life - week 2

Yay! Happy 2nd week of 2018. I'm so (almost stupidly) excited that I'm not super late on this post. I'm also actually very happy that I committed to doing this because it reminded me to take lots of snapshots throughout the week of just regular day-to-day life and it has been making me so happy just looking back and remembering through them.

Here's what this past week looked like:

Adding some silliness to breakfast with some cool shades!

Post-nap screen time. We usually save any/all screen time for after his nap and reserve the mornings (when he's most awake and alert!) for books, activities, puzzles, etc!

Took a quick trip to paris baguette on a rainy morning for some coffee and croissants! Stopped to take a few selfies. We loved finally having a rainy (and not blazing hot!) day in california!

Fresh cuts and smooth comb overs.

Boys have so much energy.

Cooler weather called for a nice warm meal. My favorite kinds of meals are clean-out-your-fridge/freezer meals. This sukiyaki was so easy to put together with all the random things in my fridge.

Brainstorming, reflecting. One of my resolutions is to be more intentional about taking time to just BE STILL.

A rare (but always welcome) quiet afternoon when naps are long and the toddler is quiet and occupying himself.
*PRAISE HANDS*

Rescheduled their appointments so that they could have 'em together! Baby got shots and toddler got none but toddler cried more (PTSD?) during the appointment. Thankful for gift of healthy babies. Never want to take it for granted. <3

Soba salad and Oyakodon. His, hers, and little his
(aka fun size, aka try to make shapes to make veggies look more appetizing)

A rare week of rain means letting toddler run around like a crazy person splashing in every puddle - followed by a super long bath. He was so happy and had so much fun. My favorite kind of day.

Birthday festivities.

Blessed with so many great gifts this year! Pretty sure the best gift Asher received this past year was baby sister, though! I hope they become the best of friends.

Current obsession:

Bi-weekly family cafe dates continues. This one was #3.

Hands down my FAVORITE family tradition.
Iced coffees, our usborne books and just some time to spend in quiet with our family. Sherin loves it.

Can never leave the department store without an escalator ride.

Birthday celebration #4 (I think?) AKA mom and dad got a free sundae.

Daily cuddle-in-the-crib time. Asher loves laying in here with her.

Spontaneous late-night dinner with friends!
Stayed out almost 2 hours past our bedtime. Tantrums were had but memories were made. Love baby friends!

We ate a lot of takeout this week. (twas a busy week.) One of my resolutions is to eat at home more and to cook more healthy foods - but long, hard days and crazy night shift schedules are a good excuse for some wiggle room.

Morning basket has been the best way to start our morning. Excited to do an entire post about this soon!

Sneaking in some extra calories in between playing and running around with friends. Happiest birthday to Ellis! <3

MAMAS GONE WILD!!!
wings, waffle fries (on the house!) and BOGO matcha soft serves with some good conversation on the side with fellow mamas whom I love. Such a blast!

Have a great week everyone, xoxo
